For Patterson Middle School Campus Instructional Specialist Minerva Cotton, Hispanic Heritage Month is about celebrating the culture, traditions and values that have shaped her life.
Family is at the heart of that story. One of Minerva’s most treasured memories is traveling to Puerto Rico last May to celebrate her abuela’s 100th birthday, a milestone that reminded her of the strength, love and legacy passed from one generation to the next. 🇵🇷
Her heritage also fuels her passion for supporting Emergent Bilingual students.
“I want to honor language and culture as assets and help students feel valued, confident and proud of who they are.”
Whether it is sharing arroz con pollo, enjoying music, dancing a little merengue or carrying forward the lessons of her family, Minerva says her heritage continues to shape how she leads with compassion, celebrates diversity and empowers others to embrace their own stories.
